Keep your Movers Happy – They’ll do the Same for You
Movers have pretty tough jobs. They spend all day carrying heavy boxes and awkwardly shaped furniture, sometimes in terrible weather and sometimes for clients that are a little more stressed than they are calm and rational. They understand, of course, that moving can be difficult for you and your family, but the fact remains that it makes their jobs more difficult.

Since you want your move to go as smoothly as possible, there are a few things you can do to take a little bit of the pressure off your moving team, letting them move quickly, efficiently and happily – which bodes well for your belongings!
Clean
If you’re having the moving company come to pack up your home for you (which we
strongly recommend), you can cut down on cost of labor, and save the movers a headache,
by making sure your house and belongings are clean.
This means weeping under beds and stairwells, checking the backs of closets, attics and basements, and dusting off furniture and appliances. You want to do this because 1) you’ll find any spare items lying around, 2) it’s simply easier to pack, prep, and move clean things, 3) you’ll save yourself a world of time at the other end when you unpack boxes full of sparkly clean items that you can put directly where they belong.
Organize
When your boxes or belongings are well organized and easily visible, your movers
can quickly and easily estimate and plan out just how long everything is going to
take them.
If some items are going into storage, put them all together, in one place, away from anything else, and preferably with a large flashing neon sign that says: For Storage! Even without the neon – clearly indicated destinations for your belongings make moving them that much simpler.
Also - Label your Boxes! If you’ve packed your own home, makes sure that every box has a clear label with two pieces of information on it: contents and location. For example, a box in your rec room might be labeled: DVD’S / BOARD GAMES / REC ROOM. Your movers will see the label, and treat the box accordingly. If something is breakable, mark it fragile, if something is extra heavy – mark it as such.
Trust
Our movers are professionals! It’s okay – they know what they’re doing. It can be
scary to watch strangers holding your personal effects – it means you’re giving
away some of your control. But when you’re anxious about how things are going, your
movers will pick up on it and become nervous as well. If you’ve got a box of fine
crystal that’s moving from one place to another, would you like to see it handled
by a calm, confident, relaxed mover, or an edgy, anxious mover who is constantly
looking over his shoulder? Pretty obvious choice, isn’t it?
You have to trust that everything is going to be okay. If you choose a company from our roster of movers, we can assure you that there’s nothing to worry about. Don’t hesitate to ask questions if something seems odd to you, or you don’t understand why something is happening, but remember – these people do this every single day.
Damage Control
If something is really making you uncomfortable, you’ll want to talk to the head
of the team, generally the driver. It’s his job to make sure things run smoothly,
and he’ll be your main point of contact. If something really is wrong, it’s his
job to deal with it.
At the end of the day, you and your movers are working together to get you from one home to the next. Keeping your movers happy really comes down to treating them with the same respect you expect to receive from them.
