Packing Small Appliances

Small appliances are the important part of every kitchen and so they have to be packed carefully. Typically, small appliances include electric cookers, blenders, toasters, food processors, juicers, microwaves, coffee makers and electric choppers. The first step is to take stock of the inventory and discard the appliances that are not used regularly. You can also throw away the appliances that are not working. This is a good time to de-clutter your kitchen and pack only the essential things.

The kitchen appliances have to be washed and dried before they are packed into boxes. This is important to prevent the growth of molds and other unwanted organisms during transit. Once the appliance in question is dry, disassemble it. Make a list of parts for each appliance and try to keep the different parts of the appliance in the same box. You can even make a list of the parts and their boxes on a piece of paper along with the instructions to reassemble them at your destination. This can be a little time consuming, but it will make it easy to reassemble them in your new house.

Each part has to be wrapped in bubble wrap, packing paper or old newspapers to protect them from any possible damage. In the case of blades and microwave trays, it is a good idea to wrap them in multiple layers. Once all the parts are wrapped, they can be placed in boxes. It is best to use the original manufacturer's box if you have it. Otherwise, a sturdy box can be bought from any moving company and the different parts of the appliance can be fitted into the box. Since the parts are usually small, you should be able to fit in more than one appliance in the same box. Use good amounts of packing materials like packing paper and cushion the bottom and the sides of the box. Other choices of packing materials include old newspapers and clothes. Packing peanuts and foam are not ideal for small appliances because they can get stuck inside the parts easily and can cause damage. After placing the appliances, add some more packing material at the top to give an added layer of cushioning. If the box is heavy, then place it inside a bigger box and seal the ends of both the boxes with adhesive packing tapes. The last step is to mark the box as fragile.

Sometimes, packing small appliances can be overwhelming because of the sheer number of small parts that come with them. So, you have to plan and prepare early to give enough time for packing. If you do not have sufficient time, then it is better to ask the moving companies to handle the packing and unpacking. By doing so, you will save on a lot of time and effort and also you can be assured of their safety.
